£67,000 secured to improve Knowsley Council woodlands

04 November 2010

The Mersey Forest has secured more than £67,000 worth of grants in 2009/10 to improve Knowsley Council woodlands across the borough.

Woodland management

The grants will enable important rhododendron control, thinning work and coppicing within Council woodland sites, as well as funding new signage and interpretation.

Threefold return

The securing of these grants alone represents more than a threefold return on the Council's annual contribution of £18,155 to The Mersey Forest.

The grants were secured from the Forestry Commission's English Woodland Grant Scheme.
