As part of Liverpool City Council's Greening the City programme, The Mersey Forest is working with consultants TEP to help two local community groups to develop exciting demonstration projects to show the power of urban greening.
Since the launch of the scheme, interest has been high with 19 groups applying for the funding. The two most outstanding have now been selected, with work to commence over the coming months - more details to follow in future editions of The Mersey Forest e-newsletter.
Also as part of Greening the City, The Mersey Forest Team has set up an environmental social networking site for the city called 'Project Dirt Liverpool' (www.projectdirtliverpool.com).
The site follows in the footsteps of the London branch of Project Dirt, which was started two years ago with five participants and has now grown to more than 2,500 members.
The Liverpool site was launched in May 2010 and has already attracted over 100 members - from new volunteers seeking green projects to get involved in, to experienced community groups sharing advice and best practice.
