Over 8,000 trees were planted in sites across Knowsley as part of National Tree Week (25th November - 6th December 2009). The planting took place at community woodlands owned and managed by Knowsley Council and was delivered by British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) with support from local residents from each of the surrounding areas.
In Kirkby, trees were planted in Charlotte's Pagsey, Acornfield Plantation, Mill Dam Woods and Bluebell Wood. Syders Grove, Little Wood and Pinfold Wood in Stockbridge and Knowsley Villages were also planted with new trees.
Tree planting was also held in Ten Acre Pits, Rabbit Wood and Bowring Park Golf Course in Huyton as well as Halewood Park and Court Farm Woods in Halewood.
Various Friends groups including the Little Wood Stockbridge Assocation and Junior Rangers, Friends of Ten Acre Pits and Friends of Bowring Park supported with the delivery of activities in their local areas.
The tree planting work was heavily supported by funds from the Forestry Commission 'English Woodlands Grant Scheme', Knowsley Council and The Mersey Forest.
The work forms part of the wider woodland management works that Knowsley Council is implementing to improve our community woodlands across the Knowsley area. For more information on Knowsley Council's work on woodland management, please contact Philip Hurst, Green Space Development Officer, on 0151 443 2482 or at philip.hurst@knowsley.gov.uk.
