Seaforth gets Green Streets

06 May 2010

Communities in Seaforth are set to benefit from 30 new street trees in a project that has enabled local residents to be at the heart of improving their neighbourhood's environment.

The trees will be planted along Seaforth Road this March, to fulfill the vision of Seaforth Residents Action Group whose members wanted street trees along their high street to link residential areas to local green space and shops.

Other residents and businesses also got involved, thanks to two consultation events held within the community (pictured). Over 400 local residents were also leafleted and invited to express their views on the tree planting.

Local individuals and organisations can even 'adopt' a tree and volunteer to water it during the summer months, again putting the involvement of local people at the centre of the project.

The project is funded by commuted sums received through Section 106 agreements from Sefton Council, and from the North West Regional Development Agency through the Forestry Commission's Setting the Scene For Growth programme facilitated by The Mersey Forest. These funding sources have been given specifically for environmental improvements.

Keep up to date on the project at the Seaforth Green Streets blog.
