Job Title: Woodland Advisor
Location: Hybrid (home and on-site working, with occasional office visits as required)
Contract type: Fixed term contract until 31 March 2027 (extension subject to funding)
Salary: £32,077 - £35,745 (depending upon experience)
Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week
Reports to: Senior Woodland Advisor

Job Overview:

The Mersey Forest Team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Woodland Advisor to lead the delivery of new woodland planting and management projects in the region. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in tackling climate change and nature loss, while contributing to the Mersey Forest Plan and supporting key local and national policies.

The Mersey Forest is a growing network of woodlands and green spaces across 2900 square km across of Merseyside and Cheshire. Created in 1991 it is one of England's Community Forests, bringing together local authorities, landowners, businesses, and communities to improve the environment, economy, and quality of life in the region. To date, the partnership has planted nearly 10 million trees, creating beautiful woodlands and habitats for wildlife, while also supporting local economies and promoting health and wellbeing.

By 2050, we aim to cultivate a vibrant, sustainable community forest that connects people with the power of nature.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forestry or a related field, with proven experience in woodland creation, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a passion for environmental conservation. Innovation, enthusiasm and great team working ability are some of the qualities we are looking for.

In a typical week you will be;

  • Meeting with landowners to discuss funding options.
  • Carrying out site visits.
  • Consulting with relevant public bodies.
  • Designing climate resilient woodlands and developing sustainable establishment plans.
  • Project management and administration.
  • Be part of a supportive and committed team
