Delamere Forest Park: 01606 889792

This 137 hectare site was the first area of the great Norman hunting Forests of Mara to come from forestry into agriculture, and the first to go back to forestry. It is a haven for visitors to enjoy wildlife and nature, with an arboretum, wildflower meadow and an amphitheatre for events. Already it is one of Cheshire's best areas for spotting butterflies.

Local people and school children have assisted in the development of Old Pale, planting trees and passing comment on the future of the site. From the top of the hill experience the majestic views of seven counties: Cheshire, Lancashire, Flintshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Denbighshire. After the gruelling climb to the summit, wind your way back down watching the forest unfold in front of you.

  1. From the Discovery Centre, head along the road towards the station.

  2. Take the second track on the right, just before the cottages on the left.

  3. At the second junction of tracks, bear left on to the path through the woods, which soon rejoins the track.

  4. At the next junction, turn left then sharply right towards the towers on top of the hill.

  5. Pass the towers and bear right as you head down the hill.

  6. At the road turn right to return to the Discovery Centre.
