Owley Wood covers just less than six hectares on the steeply sloping valley side of the River Weaver. It is designated a Site of Biological Interest and is lucky enough to play host to a volunteer group, established in 1993, who work hard to improve it.

From the top path, panoramic views of the river valley farmland towards Winnington are visible through the oak, sycamore and hazel trees. On the bottom path, sheltered from the wind, a rich vegetation flourishes in the fertile soil, and ducks forage among the willows that overhang the river. In between, birds call in the treetops (tawny owls at night), and in spring bluebells carpet the steep slopes with a fragrant blue haze.
