Whitby Park is located near to the leisure centre on Stanney Lane, in the centre of Ellesmere Port. The park was formerly the grounds of a Victorian house, Whitby Hall, and before that agricultural land.

Though mostly formal park with large areas of grass and mature trees, there is significant opportunity for nature conservation and habitat creation. During winter 2003 belts of young trees have been planted to supplement the existing native species planting. Local schoolchildren planted the new trees and collected and planted acorns to grow future stock for the park.

A sculpture trail leads through this existing young, native woodland. There are new wetland habitats, long ditches to aid drainage, and an ornamental pond, and playground, bowling green and games pitches.

Planted here: Apple!
Everyone knows the apple tree... but did you know there are over 7,500 cultivated varieties and it comes originally from Central Asia? Let us know if you eat the fruit from any of the trees we've planted.
